The ready-to-use system Camilla is a novel fluorescence detection system, based on a CCD-sensor with ultra high resolution. The 8 million pixel chip allows to measure large fluorescence samples within seconds resulting in an image with a resolution more than sufficient even for 2D protein gels. The various options yield to a high flexibility in excitation and illumination of the sample.

Standard 2D protein gels labelled with Sypro Ruby^TM can be detected using the included UV-light table. Images of silver or Commassie stained gels are obtained with the optional white light table.

High throughput quality control of PCR products is feasible via UV-light excited fluorescence measurement of Ethidiumbromid gels.

The optional transillumination unit with light of different wavelength for excitation allows double/multiple labelling with prelabelling techniques ( with e.g. Cy2^TM, Cy3^TM, Cy5^TM or FlashPro blue^TM, FlashPro green^TM, FlashPro red^TM). This possibility makes the system Camilla to the first true alternative to fluorescence scanners leading much faster to the desired measurement results
