AIDA Biopackage
  Evaluation Software

AIDA is a modular software package for evaluation and documentation of images that were obtained with digital devices such as CCD cameras, flat bed scanners, or BAS / FLA- scanners from Fuji. Additionally, AIDA allows the loading of loading a variety of images in other image formats (e.g.: TIFF, JPEG, Bmp, gel). AIDA can control all scanning devices offering a TWAIN compatible driver.
AIDA is application oriented with easy handling made possible by an interactive menu.

The organization of the toolbox at the right side of the image guarantees a permanent optimal overview over all functions.

  • AIDA Basis

Images can be turned, flipped, enlarged and zoomed. The gray scale representation of the image is given and can be changed in many ways to enhance the visibility of the original data. Editable text and arrows in different fonts, size and orientation can be added to the image as overlays. To comply with GLP standard, the original image data are never changed. All images are equipped with detailed information of their source, size etc.

  • AIDA 1D Quantification

The 1D quantification is a highly efficient and accurate tool. Typically, all types of 1D gel electrophore experiments as well as Southern-, Northern- and Western blots are evaluated. Densitometer windows can be drawn in any width or angle through the image. Lanes, band, the bending of lanes and the backround can be detected automatically or manually. The resulting profiles can be displayed in different layouts. In a configurable result table single values or the sum of integrated peaks can be set as 100%.
Calibration standards can be used by AIDA to convert the relative intensity integrals to absolute measurements (e.g.: µg, nmol). The calibration curve can be reviewed and adapted to fit various functions.

  • AIDA 2D Quantification

Evaluates dot blots, microtiterplates, histological sections or other complex 2D-structures. Regions such as rectangles, squares, ellipses, circles, polygons, free drawing and auto contour are defined as overlays and can be turned, resized and reformatted in any way to improve results. Matrices can be defined, stored, reloaded and reedited for quick and easy evaluation of dot blots, microtiterplates and other well defined geometrical structures.
The backround can be assigned to each region or a local backround, surrounding the region, can be substracted. Gray scale integration limits can be selected for individual regions. The result table can be configured in many ways, and the results of any regions can be linked to groups with an individual backround. Any region value within a group can be set to 100%. Regions can be easily renumbered or labelled with names. The generation of a name table allows quick labelling.

  • AIDA Fragment Length Determination

The size of DNA, the mass of proteins, isoelectric points and RF values can be calculated from the migration distance by the use of individual standards. The standards can easily be stored in a library. Automated assignment of standard bands can be started by simple clicking. When multiple standard lanes are present, the running distortion (e.g: the smile effect of a gel) is automatically calculated and displayed resulting in very precise and resprodicible results.
